Top 5 Best Whey Protein
December 16, 2008 | Leave a Comment
The purpose here is to review the major whey protein powders available on the market today. The powders were all judged according to the mix in a uniform way. All mixing was completed with either a spoon or shaker bottle and the prescribed amount of water as it was found on the products package. In most cases we tried the powders mixed with other liquids; however, these mixes were not necessarily in the final rating.
The Powders Are All Judged Based On The Following:
-Mixability: ability to mix and dissolve completely with consideration given to clumps, foam, and stickiness.
-Taste: how well the product imitates its flavor, chemical or other after tastes, and balance of sweetness.
-Texture: Products are judged according to the nature of the product, whether it is supposed to be juice or like a shake; thick and creamy or watery and thin. We also considered the products graininess, clumps and foam if relevant.
-Profile: This is the protein profile of the product. This is judged on the current preference for whey protein whether it’s Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) or Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC) and whether it’s cross-flow micro- filtration or ion filtration. Added supplements within the mix may be considered depending on context but cannot make up for a poor protein blend. In addition, there will be specific product highlights included as well as drawbacks and personal thoughts on the product.
We compared 20 different brands and the following are the top 5 best protein:
1st Place – Ergopharm GF Pro considering the high cost, it got a top score. It has quality whey protein isolate mixed with bovine plasma protein which is regarded as being highly anabolic and the flavors are delicious. If you have the extra money to spend on this product you should try this out.
2nd Place – Syntrax Nectar. Some of the Syntrax Nectar flavors over shadow all of the others; for example, Fuzzy Navel and Crystal Sky. This protein is a pure WPI that mixes perfectly and has a delicious taste and smooth texture for a juice drink. You pay a premium price but you receive an excellent protein that is a great change from the usual milky chocolate or vanilla.
3rd place – Primaforce Substance WPI. is the least affordable of the juice-like proteins but that does not mean it isn’t high quality. This product has pure WPI. The only issue is that mixing takes more patience and effort than with the other “clear” proteins. The watermelon flavor drinks is the one of the best proteins in this group.
4th Place – ISS Research Complete Whey Power has an excellent taste and it’s easy to mix. It’s a pretty basic mixture of WPC and WPI but they are both of a higher quality. This protein drink may not be worth the price, however, the flavors are great and the quality is first-rate.
5th Place – NOW Foods Whey Protein Isolate is one of our personal favorites. This protein is pure CFM WPI which is the highest quality whey. It is all natural with no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners and has an excellent, smooth, natural flavor. When mixed, the powder becomes very thick and when you drink it, it feels very healthy.
