Meltdown is defined as a weight-loss supplement that contains caffeine, phenylethylamine, yohimbine, synephrine and hordenine. Every one of these substances is thermogenic, in other words, it increases caloric expenditure. Jay Hoffman and his co-workers conducted a study revealing that Meltdown increased resting caloric expenditure by 20% for a few hours.

In addition, Darryn Willoughby from Baylor University and colleagues conducted a study and discovered that Meltdown amplified caloric expenditure and fat burning both before and after a short exercise session in college-age males. The participants rested for 60 minutes, consumed 3 Meltdown capsules (500 mg) or a placebo (artificial Meltdown), rested another 60 minutes, participated in a maximal treadmill test for about twelve minutes of exercise to fatigue and then relaxed another 60 minutes.
Meltdown amplified caloric expenditure by 10% – the 120 minute experimental period (rest + exercise + rest) and amplified estimated fat use by 6%. The participant’s blood pressure and heart rate remained the same between Meltdown and placebo. Meltdown amplifies metabolic rate rest and during healing from exercise without commanding extra loads on the cardiovascular system.
