Scientist are still not sure why Mediterranean diet makes people live longer, reduce risk of heart disease and some types of cancer and even reduce blood vessel inflammation.
Olive Oil Makes You Younger & Healthier
But, Peter Jones and his colleagues from McGill University in Canada, thinks the reason why Mediterranean diet is so healthy is because of olive oil. Olive oil lowers LDL (bad cholesterol) and contains Phenols which fights chemicals called free radicals that are linked to aging, immune system breakdown, and cancer.
Researchers also found that long term consumption of olive oil decreased blood vessel inflammation, prevent heart attack by preventing blood clots, reduced the risk of certain types of cancer.
Olive Oil Burns More Calories
When researchers at McGill University compared olive oil with other oils (ex:sunflower, flaxseed, grape seed, corn) found that olive oil increased resting metabolic rate, burning more calories during and after digestion compared to other oils, making your body a calorie burning machine.
Whether you are trying to lose few pounds or just trying to be healthy, Mediterranean diet is they way to go.
