Did you know that people who snore heavily actually burn the same amount of calories as a usual gym workout? According to the University of California, San Francisco Medical School researchers, individuals with sleep apnea burned an additional 300 calories daily. The catch? They made up for it during the course of the day by consuming more amounts of food and less exercise. As a result, their weight increased. Individuals who suffer from sleep apnea tend to stop breathing at times throughout their sleep – this can lead restless sleep and even drowsiness during the day. This is considered to be a very dangerous health problem that can even cause a car accident and even fatal turbulence in heart rhythms.

Are You Suffering From Sleep Apnea

Several weight trainers who snore or wake regularly during their sleep due to having large neck muscles block air flow in the throat and mouth. So, if you have been suffering from these symptoms, you may be suffering from sleep apnea. If you have read our previous posts, I’m sure by now you know that lack of sleep caused by sleep apnea is a link to obesity. The reason for this is that sleep apnea because of additional tissue and bad muscle tone in the throat obstructs the air flow during sleep.

Too much body fat changes the metabolism and hinder normal sleep patterns. Sleep apnea can be treated through surgery, weight loss and even incessant positive airway pressure devices (CPAP).
