Did you know that 90% of Americans drink caffeine on a daily basis? Many people drink tea, coffee, including other caffeinated beverages in order to stay awake or as an energy boost. Some people even use caffeine as a weight-loss supplement in order to decrease their body fat.
Caffeine is a Stimulant of the Central Nervous
This improves a person’s alertness and even certain types of athletic performance. It also affects some individuals more than others. It all depends on a person’s gender, body size and tolerance. Scientists at the University of Barcelona (Spain) study proved that caffeine had a much, faster effect in males than females. They also measured the short-term, (first half-hour) and long-term (24 hours) affects of caffeine consumption in approximately 700 university students. Coffee enhanced their alertness within forty-five minutes; however, the effects were higher in males than females.
In addition, coffee enhanced alertness, even though the effects were less than a regular cup of coffee. In many individuals, the effects of caffeine last for two to three hours, but can last as long as ten to twelve hours in women who are expecting and in those who suffer from liver disease.
